 WOOD, Richard Minimize
As a Westie, an old boy of KBHS and current Board Trustee I am very proud of the modern facilities at the School, the leadership of the Principal Steve Watt, the dedicated teaching staff and the outstanding sporting achievements of boys who have attended the School.
However, as parents, as a Board, as teaching staff and as a school we must make sure the boys understand why they are at school- to get a good education, to gain qualifications and learn skills so that when they leave school they will be successful in their chosen careers.
I want boys to work as hard at their studies as they do at their sport. I want boys to succeed as well at their studies as they do at their sport. And, I want parents to know that KBHS will give their boys a first rate all round education comparable with any other school in New Zealand an education that will equip them to be successful for the rest of their lives.

 BROOKS, Jan Minimize

I am a Company Director of a family business and I have 3 grown children.
I have been on the KBHS Board for 9 years now. I have been Deputy Chair for the last 4 years and prior to that held the Chairman position for 1 year.  I have thoroughly enjoyed my sojourn in the role of Parent Representative in order to support the Principal and Staff of the school in the ongoing programmes they have implemented and to see the projects we have initiated as a Board through to completion.  My two boys have turned into fine young men with promising careers in the Arts and Education and I feel privileged to give something back for the fine job KBHS Staff did in adding to their development.  We have an excellent Principal in Steve Watt and anything I can do to support the good work he does for our community I am happy to contribute.

Talofa lava, my name is Pulemagafa Pava Saifoloi I was born in Samoa and I am married to Jan and have two sons. My sons and I are ex students of KBHS and are very proud to be part of this great school.
I am currently employed by Massey High School, as a Pasifika Youth Worker working with Pasifika students and families. Pasifika achievement is my passion, and I would to see more Pasifika students at KHBS be academically successful other than sports.
I was inially co-opted on the Board as the Pasifika Parent Representative and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learning the in and outs of the school structure.
I want to give something back to the school who have turned my boys and many other young men along the path toward very successful careers. I believe that KBHS is the most successful boys school around and I want to continue to support the principal Mr Steve Watt and staff to ensure that the good name of our school is up with the best.  I want boys to see KBHS as "the school for them" both academically and in cocurricular activities.

I was educated atTokoroa High School and have an Engineering degree from the University of Auckland.

I have two sons, Max (Year II) and Jack (Year 9) attending KBHS.
I enjoy working as part of the Board providing direction and governance to the school and supporting the Principal and his staff in the education and development of boys at KBHS.
Academic achievement should he the top priority for any boy at KBHS and I am committed to the school continuing to improve our academic results at all levels.
Sport and Cultural activities are very much a part of the balance boys need in their lives and KBHS provides a wealth of opportunities for these pursuits. My two boys are involved in sport at KBHS and I am pleased to continue supporting the schools Sporting and Cultural activities in parallel with our primary goal of academic achievement.

 HILLS, Mihi Minimize
My iwi affiliations are Te Aupouri and Ngati Paoa. I reside in New Lynn with my husband Bob, and one of my many moko as we have 7 adult children.
Having resided in the West Auckland area for nearly 29 years, a lot of my time has been devoted to my children and their educational and sporting endeavours. Kelston Boys’ High School not only caters for children’s learning by promoting a clear set of guidelines but also encourages students to become independent and life-long learners which is why we chose Kelston Boys’ High School for secondary education.
I am standing for the Board of Trustees as I have always taken a keen interest in education and as times have changed with the care of my moko I am now able to give something back to the community and the education sector.
I feel that my strengths lie in my ability to communicate clearly the needs of the community and the interests of the parents and staff of the school, as I am a good listener who believes every voice should be heard. My experience as a union delegate has enabled me to work in a methodical yet flexible manner that allows me to identify, respect and resolve others needs in a fair and unbiased way.
My main goal to achieve should I be re-elected onto the Board of Trustees is to ensure that the school is consistent in its implementation of the Treaty of Waitangi, as it is our foundation document of New Zealand Aotearoa. It is my belief that whilst schools encourage students to understand and respect different cultures, the importance of the Maori and Pakeha traditions and values have been lost in our multicultural society and to understand where our children are going to, they need to know where we have come from.

 EDWARDS, Julie Minimize
My son Kyle is Year 12 and has enjoyed his time at KBHS. I am the mother of 5 children aged between 8-27 and yes, they have sure shown and taught me a few things. I have worked for NZ Post for the last 29 years.
I have been on the KBHS Board of Trustees for the last 3 years and Prospect Primary Board of Trustees as Treasurer for the last 6 years. I have undergone training for my role on the
Board of Trustees and have attended extra training on the disciplinary process. I also have a very strong financial background and consider myself to have a good sense of humour.
My reasons for standing are that I have strong views on our children getting a good education but am also very aware that life is tough (more so for some of us) and I don’t anticipate it getting any easier so the better we prepare our boys for this, the better off they will be. They are the future. If elected I believe I can bring a well balanced perspective to this Board of Trustees.

I am involved in administration as the Head of Henry House and I possess a detailed knowledge of current education trends and the unique position of this school in its community and in Waitakere City.

I advocate a firm, pro-active approach towards every boy's education and offer assurances to all staff members of creating an esteemed working environment of which we can be proud.

I have been enrolled in this school since 2004.  During this time my achievements have included participating in School Productions, membership of the advanced debating team, being placed top of my class for 3 years in succession, involvement in Public Speaking and Peer Tutoring.  In the wider community I am also involved with my church choir, youth choir and am a youth group leader.

I feel that my academic success has come from my determination, hard work and perseverance.  I am looking forward to more responsibility within the student body and want to give back as much as I have received from Kelston Boys High School.

 CAMPBELL, Lovonne Minimize

I had the honour of being chosen to join KBHS in May 2002 as the Principal's PA.  In May 2008 I will have been here for six years and have been Secretary for the Board of Trustees for nearly the same period of time.   As the Principal's PA I come into contact with staff, pupils of the school and the general community and as Board Secretary I learn more and more about the efficient running of such a large and exciting School.  Before coming to Kelston I worked in the Health Sector, the last being PA for the MD of Auckland Hospital.  I spent six years in the sunny city of Tauranga working firstly for ACC and then in the Health Management area. KBHS is not my first experience of working in a school environment, having been at Taipa Area School (in the Far North) and then with ASSHA (Auckland Secondary Schools Heads Association).  KBHS has to rate as the best 'job' I have worked at - it is a creative, caring and stimulating place to be.

 GAVET, George Minimize

"Talofa lava - I was born in New Zealand and am of Samoan descent. I have 3 sons attending KBHS this year. One of my key responsibilities as their father is to ensure they have access to quality education in what will be the final stage of their compulsory education.  KBHS allows them opportunities to attain success academically and culturally and to develop necessary skills to use later in their journeys into tertiary studies and beyond.

I was co-opted onto the Board in December 2007 and whilst my BOT experience is limited I bring with me to the Board experience and abilities acquired from over twenty years in the business and tertiary education sectors.  I also bring a large network of community associations, all of whom have the potential to support me in my role on the Board. One of my main foci on the Board is with Pasifika students at KBHS and in particular strategies around retention and success and forming relationships with Pasifika stakeholders in the wider Kelston and West Auckland communities. I am a member of the Pasifika Fono sub-committee. I have recently been appointed to a General Manager position at BEST Pacific Institute of Education, based in New Lynn. My role there oversees the youth programmes at BEST's West and South Auckland campuses.

Kelston Pride is quite a 'distinctive' concept and is a strength that the school instils in their students.  I too as a parent and a member of the BOT also proclaim that sense of pride.  To that end I wish to thank the Board, comprising such high calibre members, for allowing me the privilege to be a part of its governance mechanism.  I would also like to acknowledge the Chair Richard Wood, a man of integrity, vision and undoubted business acumen, and support also fully Principal Steve Watt in his implementation of the School's strategic plan and other innovative initiatives he involves himself with in the day to day running of KBHS.

Ia manuia"
