Kelston Boys High School zone encompasses the entire City of Waitakere.
OPEN NIGHT & ENROLMENT
The school’s Open Night takes place at the beginning of Term 3. Our Open Night provides an opportunity for parents and prospective students to view the various departments of the school in action and discuss the school with teachers and current pupils. With the current increasing roll experienced by the School, it is important that enrolments are completed in sufficient time to ensure that places are confirmed and
option choices can be approved. Enrolments can be completed on the Open Night and there are several enrolment days following the Open Night. For enrolments outside the designated dates, phone the school and make an appointment. Students wishing to enrol at other levels of the School must make an appointment International students, wishing to enrol, need to contact the International Department for an appointment
WHEN ENROLLING YOUR SON PLEASE BRING:
Your Son.
Either a birth certificate or passport as proof of your son’s age.
A copy of his most recent school report. (Students enrolling in Year 12 or 13 must bring a copy
of NCEA results from previous years.)
An enrolment form and a medical form completed as far as possible. (preferably before arriving at the School)
SUBJECT CHOICES
Your son will be asked to choose option subjects at the enrolment interview. Students enrolling in Year 9 will need to choose a language and two creative art subjects from Art, Drama and Music.
ACADEMIC INSTITUTE, MUSIC ACADEMY AND SPORTS ACADEMY
Application forms for the Academic Institute, the Music Academy and Sports Academy are available from the School Office. Please discuss the entry criteria with the staff member who conducts the interview.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The School awards Junior Academic Scholarships of
$400 each to the top academic students entering Year 9. These Scholarships are also awarded to Year 10 students based on academic performance in Year 9.
Sports Scholarships of equivalent value are awarded to Year 9 students.
Application forms for these Scholarships are available from the School Office and should be received by 31 October.
SCHOOL ACTIVITY DONATION
The School’s Co-curricular goal is for every student to enjoy school and to this end a wide range of co-curricular activities including sport, drama, music and culture are offered. All of these activities give students an interest outside the classroom, help develop cooperative and competitive skills and teach values such as reliability, self-discipline and teamwork.
These activities are not funded by the government and
the School therefore relies on additional funding from
the local community.
Families are asked to contribute a School Activities Donation as follows:
- one student - $110 with a $10 discount if paid by 31 March
- two or more students in the same family - $150 with a $15 discount if paid by 31 March.
STATIONERY
Stationery is sold through the School Shop. Year 9 are expected to purchase the Year 9 Stationery pack.
Stationery lists and details of Shop hours for the new school year will be sent to all enrolled students at the end of the previous year.
