KBHS Māori Bilingual Akomanga - “Onewhero Hīkina”

“Hīkina te tama, Kia tu motuhake, kia tū pakari i te ao Maori, i te ao pakeha hoki - Uplift the boy, so that he may stand strong in both the Māori and Pakeha worlds”

Tēnei mātou, e mihi atu ana ki a koutou katoa.

I raro i a Ranginui. I runga i a Papatūānuku.

E titiro ana ki ngā maunga whakahī me ngā tini uri o Tāne.

Kei aku nui, kei aku rahi, e te tī, e te tā

Tēnā koutou katoa

KBHS is proud to announce the establishment of “Onewhero Hīkina”, our Māori Bilingual Akomanga which will commence in Term One of 2022.  Onewhero Hīkina offers Te Reo Māori at immersion levels 1-2.  The starting level is a 50/50 model. 50% Te Reo Māori and 50% in the English language, progressing to 70/30 by the end of the year.  Te Reo me ōna tīkanga and Tīkanga A Iwi (Social Studies) will be subjects studied and taught through a Te Ao Māori lens.  Our bilingual akomanga will provide a holistic learning environment based on kaupapa Māori philosophy and the practice of whanaungatanga.  Students will have access to and gain matauranga Māori (Maori knowledge), practice and understand tikanga Māori (Māori customs) and ngā ahuatanga Māori (aspects distinctive to Te Ao Māori).  Students of Onewhero Hīkina will be in our Onewhero Whānau.

Students will be in the mainstream for all other subjects.
