Tongan Bilingual Class - Ako Lea Faka - Tonga
The Tongan Bilingual Unit commenced in 2023 - 'Oku 'amanaki ke fakaava 'ae 'iuniti ako 'anga lea fakatonga 'ae 'api ako Kelston Boy's High School 'i he ta'u 2023.
We believe it is important to commence a bilingual Unit for the Tongan Language at Kelston Boys' High School to inspire our Tongan students to learn within a context where they will be able to embrace, share and implement their anga-fakatonga. Students will grow to be secure in their Tongan identity, language and culture. - 'E mahu'inga 'aupito ki he 'apiako ke 'i ai ha loki ako pe 'iuniti, ke ako'i ai 'ae lea fakatonga totonu pea moe 'ulungaanga fakatonga totonu. Koe'uhi ke tupulekina 'ae 'ilo 'ae fanauako ki he lea fakatonga. Pea 'oku mau tui 'e mahu'inga 'aupito ki he fanau, tautau tefito ki he 'etau fanau Tonga ke nau mahino'i 'ae lea moe 'ulungaanga fakatonga.
Within the Tongan Bilingual Unit, it will signify the two main languages used, Lea faka Tonga and English.
Our Vision
Is to inspire our Tongan students to learn within a context where they will be able to embrace, share and implement their anga-fakatonga. Students will grow to be secure in their Tongan identity, language, and culture.
Criteria for entry include (but are not limited to):
The student is of Tongan Decent
Must be currently attending a Tongan Bilingual Unit or is a confident speaker of Lea faka Tonga.
Must be willing to perform in Polyfest, support, and participate in all Tongan school activities.
