TERM 4 UPDATE: Principal Update & New Exam Timetable

Kia ora whānau

As we enter our third week back at school for senior students, it is promising to see students completing assessments and attaining the credits that they deserve. The hybrid model that sees a combination of on-site learning and online learning is helping to meet the needs of students and the workshop days provide targeted opportunities for students to practice agency over their learning.

The senior school programme will end as of Friday, 19 November. This means that the current timetabled programme of classes and workshops for senior students will not run after that date. This theoretically, will be the last day of school for students in Years 11, 12 and 13. From Monday, 22 November, students will need to make appointments with their teachers if they wish to come into school to complete their work.

The NCEA External Examinations will begin on Monday, 22 November. Attached is the timetable for the exams that will run until 14 December. Students attending their external examinations will need to have their face masks and all Health and Safety protocols will be followed to ensure a safe environment is provided. Students should work with their teachers as to whether an Unexpected Event Grade could be granted by their teachers for their externals. If a student has not provided any evidence of work or attempted practice tests, this grade cannot be granted.

Thank you to Mr McPherson and Mr Faafua for delivering the hard packs to students. Most of our Year 9 students would have received their packs by now and we are working through the Year 10s. These learning packs provide additional study materials to support your sons learning.

With the increasing number of positive cases and the spread in the West Auckland area, it is understandable for anxiety levels to be raised. As mentioned previously, the school will be informed of a positive case once it is discovered, followed by communication to the school community and any affected people. At present, Kelston Boys’ has not been notified of any positive cases where the person was infectious whilst at school. The Public Health guidelines currently remind everyone to practise safe hygiene and adhere to the rules of social distancing and mask-wearing.

Thank you for your continued support of the school and have a good week.
