Kia ora e te whānau,

PPTA Te Wehengarua members covered by the Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement (“STCA”) have overwhelmingly voted to take strike action this term. As the vast majority of our teachers belong to the PPTA, strike actions will have impacts on how we operate.

Full strike - 20 August 2025

On 20 August 2025, PPTA Te Wehengarua members covered by the bargaining for the STCA will not work at all between the hours of 8.30 am to 4.30 pm. Kelston Boys' High School will be unable to operate school safely and provide a full teaching and learning programme for the day. We ask that students be kept at home for the day. Limited supervision will be available for students if needed, provided by the small team of staff who are not PPTA members. Please note that no lessons will be taught this day.

Partial strikes

Between 15th September and 18th September 2025, there will be a series of partial strikes. Each strike will be from 9 am to 3.15 pm. During those times, PPTA members will not teach, instruct or supervise students in certain year levels but continue to teach all other students. Teachers will also continue to do administrative work in the time that they would usually have been teaching students in the affected year levels. Year levels for each of the designated days are asked to stay at home.

Timing of year levels affected

  • 15 September – Years 12 and 13

  • 16 September- Year 11

  • 17 September- Year 10

  • 18 September- Year 9
